Wednesday 13 February 2008 Election special Trust board by-election At its meeting on Monday 4 February the board agreed that the by-election to fill the two vacancies for elected members, as unanimously approved by the AGM on 26 January, should: • be conducted in accordance with new election rules that have been completely rewritten in order to strike what the board thinks is a better balance between encouraging members to take part in elections on the one hand and to make sure elections are fair on the other • be overseen by the election steering group whose top priority will be to concentrate on encouraging a vibrant, contested election and not on interpreting a set of rules and checking whether they conform with the Trust's constitution. The board is delighted that Tim Hillyer has agreed to chair the steering group for this by-election. The board asks every member to think about doing his or her "tour of duty". We have been running a series of articles in the programme on what being a member is like and you can find these articles in one handy PDF at the end of this feature. So, having said how much we'd like you to join us, we pass you over to the secretary for the formal announcement made in accordance with our new rules...
