Foundation team's work earns press attention

It’s been a particularly busy seven days for our AFC Wimbledon Foundation team in delivering summer events in the community and all their hard work has earned deserved press coverage.

This time last week while the nation was gearing up for England versus Wales at Euro 2016, we delivered plenty of items to the Wimbledon Foodbank after generous donations from supporters.

Of course, a big summer event for the Foundation was the Wimbledon Village Fair on Saturday. Pictures from the day, including former Wimbledon defender John Scales visiting our stall, are in the gallery above, along with plenty of pictures from the last week.

Foundation Executive Director Kay Skelton said that over 500 people visited our stall and it was a great way for the club to be active in the community.

“We had children taking part in the penalty shoot-out, parents enquiring about our holiday courses, and ex-players John Scales and Dickie Guy visited us,” Kay said. “We also got to meet with our partners at the Wimbledon Foundation (charity arm of the All-England Tennis Club).

“We handed out leaflets about our school holiday courses, including free sessions, and there was a lot of interest in this. In terms of promoting what we do in the community, I think we did a really good job and we’ve worked together as a club on this.”

Our Foundation's events in the community continued yesterday with 60 girls playing in an annual tournament for secondary schools at Southfields Academy.
