Dean Parrett won a game of rock, paper, scissors, to decide penalty taking duties last night and he said it was a fair way to settle the argument!
The midfielder stepped up to strike his sixth AFC Wimbledon goal, paving the way to an important win for the club against Rochdale as it moved Neal Ardley’s men onto 54 points with just six games to play.
Speaking after last night’s win, Dean said: “Lyle grabbed the ball, but I ran over to him and said, ‘can I have it?’ I had a ratio of two out of two. He said that he wanted it, but I said we should do rock, paper, scissors, and he naturally put his hand out. I went for paper and Lyle went for rock! Lyle has got a goals target, but I have too, and it was a fair way to do it I guess.
“I set myself targets of goals and assists and I am kind of on my way to getting there. I have six goals and I would like to get to double figures. There are only six games to go, but I will keep plugging away and hopefully I can win some more games of rock, paper, scissors!”

Despite having his own targets for the season, Dean believes that he is gradually adjusting his game for the benefit of the team.
“I am a very attacking central midfielder who wants to get forward, help the strikers out, and score goals,” added Dean. “The manager is instilling the defensive side of the game and positioning, which is something I can do. I’ve done it differently at other clubs so it’s just a case of learning the way that the manager wants me to do it. I think I’m starting to learn it, but there are a few things I need to tweak.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far. Obviously, the lads got promoted last year and one of the reasons I signed for Wimbledon was because I wanted to test myself against League One players. I wanted to see how I did against some of the big teams in this league and I think I’ve given a good account of myself.
“I would say that there are a few more players who are composed on the ball at this level. The good teams are very good at drawing you out of position and playing it in behind you, they are always on the move. We want to finish the season strongly and take that into next season. If we can tweak a few things and keep working hard, why can’t we push for the play-offs next season? We have not been far off it this season.”
