Dons move reignites Poleon

Striker adapts well to new environment

Dominic Poleon said that victory against Reading provided evidence that work on the training pitch is paying off and he believes Neal Ardley can get the best out of his talents.

The 22-year-old striker marked his first appearance at the Cherry Red Records Stadium with a goal and he reckons there will be more to come from him after settling in well at his new club.

“When you have good players in the squad, you naturally adapt,” said Dominic. “It ups your game in training and on the pitch. You bring the best out of yourself when you train with good players. We push each other in training and I think that has paid off in pre-season so far. There are still a few more games to go and still things to work on, but it seems like it is coming together and long may that continue.

“The training here is very good. It’s very stats-based, but the stats are respective to the player. For example, I have to make sure in training I am sprinting about a lot, but for a midfielder it’s about covering the distance. It is all relative to the game. I’m enjoying it and it’s really pushing me on. At any club you go to you want to make your mark, settle in well, and have a good season. My job is to score goals and I want to be down the middle.”

channel, the former Oldham forward added that he can’t wait to have another crack at League One with AFC Wimbledon as he believes that Neal Ardley’s men are well equipped for the challenge. You TubeDuring an interview on our official

“We have a bit of an advantage because no one expects us to do well,” added Dominic. “We are kind of unknown and that could work in our favour. I think we’ve got to go and attack games. We have nothing to lose, but at the same time we owe it to ourselves and the fans to put good performances in. I’ve played in the division before and with what we’ve got here I think we will do fine.

“It is exciting with everything that has gone on at this club. It’s the highest this club has ever been and the fans are looking at us and saying ‘what else can we achieve?’ I think we have a belief in the changing room that we can do well in this league.”
