Olusanya stars for development squad in victory at Merstham

AFC Wimbledon marched to an emphatic victory against Bristol Rovers in the Central League South West Division this afternoon.

Toyosi Olusanya (pictured) and Egli Kaja both claimed a goal and an assist each in the 4-0 win that offered Chris Whelpdale a chance to get 70 minutes under his belt. George Oakley opened the scoring before half-time with substitute Jayden Antwi also on target.

Oakley made no mistake with 30 minutes on the clock when he finished off clinically after a good cross from Kaja. It was 2-0 five minutes after half-time when Kaja capitalised on a mistake to double the advantage.

The goal of the game came midway through the second-half when Olusanya ended a fine solo run with a lovely left footed finish. Olusanya then turned provider when he set-up Antwi to make it 4-0.

Coach Alan Reeves was pleased with his side’s overall display at Merstham.

“They were quite young, but regardless of the opposition you have to do a job,” said Alan. “There were some good performances and we could have won by more if we had been more ruthless. At times, we took a few liberties with extra touches because they thought it was too easy. I was really pleased with the back four as they squeezed up and made the pitch smaller.

“Apart from one game at Luton in pre-season and the first half against Charlton last week, the boys have given me everything and that’s all you can ask for.”

The victory made it seven points out of a possible nine for AFC Wimbledon in the Central League South West Division this season

AFC Wimbledon: Joe McDonnell, Jamie Smith, Will Nightingale, Paul Kalambayi, Seth Owens, Chris Whelpdale (Antonio Walker), David Fitzpatrick (Judah Chapman), Dan Gallagher, Egli Kaja, Toyosi Olusanya, George Oakley (Jayden Antwi).
