Impressive display from our development squad today
Alfie Egan struck an impressive treble to help AFC Wimbledon to victory in a Central League Cup match at Colchester United this afternoon.
Joining in the attack at every opportunity as part of a 4-2-3-1 formation, the midfielder (pictured) produced three clinical finishes to earn a 3-0 victory for our development squad at Florence Park.
Egan followed up to make it 1-0 half an hour in after Egli Kaja’s superb run had ended with a shot against the inside of a post. His second 15 minutes from time was the culmination of a fine team move, Egan finishing off well after an assist from Neset Bellikli. With five minutes left, Egan struck again after good work by Dan Gallagher.
Alan Reeves said: “In the formation we played today Alfie has licence to go forward. He has a natural inclination to do that and what he does do is get into the box really well. Alfie has to learn a bit about doing it in a 4-4-2 when he can’t get into the box all the time, but he will pick that up gradually.
“They (Colchester) were a bit younger than us today, but you can only beat what is put in front of you. We were the better team and had the better chances, overall it was a decent all-round performance. We scored fine team goals and managed to keep a clean sheet too.”
