Francomb close to return

Winger puts knee injury behind him

George Francomb is close to being able to join in training with the rest of AFC Wimbledon’s squad after making good progress from a knee injury.

Neil Cox confirmed that the 24-year-old has been in light training after recovering from the knee operation that he required at the end of last season.

Francomb (pictured at Sunday’s victory parade) is currently being put through his paces by AFC Wimbledon Sports Scientist Jason Moriarty.

“George is doing the warm-ups, but he’s not yet able to join in with ball work yet,” said Neil. “We are just taking a bit of time with him, but he will be up and running soon. George came in a week early to try and get in a little bit of fitness as he has been out for a while. We are just waiting for the all-clear from the physio so that he can join in with the rest of the squad.”

Though Francomb missed the play-off final at Wembley due to the injury, the winger committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

We are pleased to report that young striker George Oakley is also back in light training after recovering from the serious ankle injury that kept him out for six months last season.
