Seth signs pro deal

Ex-Brentford defender joins the Dons

Seth Owens has today signed a professional contract at AFC Wimbledon with the former Brentford defender brought in to strengthen Alan Reeves’ development squad.

The 18-year-old, who can play at left-back or centre-back, has earned a deal with the Dons after making a big impression during pre-season matches for the development squad.

Alan Reeves said: “Seth has played really well for us and we were after a left-back who can also play centre-back. Seth looks comfortable on the ball and I think in the five games he has played for us I’ve only seen him beaten once by a winger. He has a decent physique and the way he uses his body to stop players is a bit similar to the way Jon Meades defends. Though Seth needs work on certain aspects of his game, he looks like a natural defender.”

Seth, who spent five years with Brentford, is determined to take his big opportunity after leaving Brentford in January.

“I grew up playing football on Hackney Marshes and then played for Wingate & Finchley, before I was spotted by Brentford,” said Seth. “I learned a lot there about conducting yourself well off the pitch as well as on it. Now that I’m getting older I need to try and break into first-team football and hopefully I will have an opportunity of doing that here.

“I had been on trial with a few clubs since leaving Brentford in January, but coming here felt like the best decision. I saw the club get promoted and I’ve enjoyed my time here so far. There is a lot of potential in the development squad and as the manager used to be a defender he can help me improve my game.”
