Paul Robinson interviewed ahead of game versus Shrews

Paul Robinson has backed Tyrone Barnett to start hitting the back of the net on a regular basis after his superb winner against Charlton Athletic last Saturday.

Barnett goes into tomorrow’s match against his old club having rediscovered the scoring knack in stunning style at The Valley – and Robinson believes there’s more to come.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Robinson said: “Tyrone was really sharp in training last week and he showed that when he came on and got us the winning goal. He has carried on in the same vein this week and I am sure he is looking to continue with that on Saturday. It was important for him to get his first goal and being a winner meant it was a good boost for him at the right time.

“Tyrone is a nice lad and he has fitted in really well here. Hopefully, he will continue that habit of players scoring against their former clubs. Every one of our strikers is tough and you know that facing them in training is going to be hard work, but it prepares you well for Saturday.”

The experienced defender added that team ethic is vitally important for the Dons this season to compete with big clubs at this level.

“We are working hard defensively and to make sure we have a really good team ethic,” said Robinson. “We know that we are not one of the biggest teams in this division and we have to find every advantage we can. Team ethic is a big thing for us if we are going to get results.

“We always knew it was going to be tough adjusting to this level and it has been. We’ve had that little learning curve, but hopefully now we’ve had a big morale boost with the result last week and we can really kick-on.

“We will be aware of Shrewsbury’s strengths, but we have to get our own house in order and try to hurt them. We want to keep improving as a squad and make sure we put in consistent performances week in and week out.”
