Under-18s gear up for league resumption by hitting the goal trail

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s warmed up for their final two league games of 2016/17 with a convincing friendly victory on Saturday.

With a break in league fixtures until this Saturday at Cheltenham Town, manager Mark Robinson filled the gap with a match against Pro Soccer Academy.

The outcome was a 5-0 victory with Nathan Wood (pictured) striking a double and the other goals coming from Great Nii Okai Evans, Antinio Walker and Judah Chapman.

A week earlier, the young Dons won by the same score-line against Hastings with goals from Tino Carpene, Evans, Ethan Nelson-Roberts, Callum Phillip and Wood.

Mark Robinson said: "Without league games for two weeks, it is really important we keep the boys sharp and continue with our development programme. It is a difficult time of the year as the older boys have had their decisions about their futures. It is important that we do the right thing and give them the opportunity to stay sharp so that they can show their potential when they go on trial elsewhere. We also need to keep developing the younger lads and keep focusing on their development targets.

“We have managed to get the balance right in both games and the attitude of all the boys has been first class. Both the opposition sides we faced, regularly fare well against academy teams from clubs, but we showed our talent and could have scored more goals in both games. We also gave another U-14 his debut and he played with no fear, which was great to see. We have two league games left and it is massively important that the boys finish strongly."
