Interview with academy products Egan and Olusanya

Alfie Egan and Toyosi Olusanya are now aiming to make an impression at first-team level after spearheading last season’s superb FA Youth Cup run.

Egan became known for his goals from midfield last season as the young Dons marched into the last-16, while Olusanya’s rise from local college football to the professional ranks in the space of a year was another academy success story.

channel, Egan said: “Straight away you can see Toyosi’s pace, but he is also unbelievable on the ball. Give him the ball to his feet or in front of him and he’s got that bit of trickery to beat his man. He can whip the balls into the box and I try to get on the end of them. You TubeDuring an interview which can be viewed on our official

“The FA Youth Cup goals were great, but that’s behind us now. This is the next step forward to the first-team. I think the way that we play with getting balls wide and into the box I could pop up with a few goals if I get the opportunities. It was a good 30-minute run-out for me (at Margate). Coming into it this year everyone has been so friendly and I’ve been made to feel welcome.”

Forward Olusanya (pictured), who scored a penalty on his first-team debut against Newport County, is at his best expressing himself on the ball and he aims to show what he can do at a higher level next season.

“I have a point to prove as I want to show my ability and that I can help the team,” said Olusanya. “Mark Robinson and James Oliver-Pearce (Under-18s coaches) helped me and gave me a lot of pointers. They were trying to prepare me not just for the Under-21s, but for the level above. I’ve got to be consistent with my back to goal, in front of goal, and in one versus one situations I have to express myself. As young lads coming through we have to show that we can cope with the conditions of the game at this level.”
