First trial date for college set-up is on 30 March

The AFC Wimbledon Education and Football Programme offers an exciting way to boost your career options and trial dates are coming up for you to be a part of it.

This course has built up a fine reputation during the past five seasons and now we’re expanding.

Are you a current Year 11 student?

Do you want to combine your study with your football?

Do you want to represent a professional football club?

This could be your chance to combine playing competitively at AFC Wimbledon whilst studying for an academic qualification that can lead to a career in the industry.

If successful, you will be training three times a week with the clubs UEFA standard coaches and playing weekly games in the prestigious PLFL and FCYA leagues. To make sure you’re performing at your best, you will be looked after by the Sports Science & Medical specialists at all sessions & matches. The rest of the time will be spent at South Thame College – Merton Campus, where all students will be expected to work hard at their BTEC in Sports qualification to further their career prospects.

There are 3 trial dates during the Easter holidays for you to show us what you’ve got in your locker:

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

The course lasts from one to two years, depending on your age, course and GCSE grades.

WHO IS IT FOR?

It is for boys who are between 16-18 years of age who wish to further their knowledge, understanding and ability in football, while at the same time continuing their education.

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I GAIN?

The Academy programme typically runs for a two year period (possibly three years depending on the course) – during this time students will study for a BTEC in Sports level 2 or 3 (dependent on GCSE qualifications) while receiving 6-9 hours per week active training and playing time.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DO I NEED?

For entry to the BTEC in Sports level 3 you will need a minimum of 4 GCSE’s grade A to C including Maths and English.

For entry to the BTEC in Sports level 2 you will need a minimum of 3 GCSE’s grade D including Maths or English.

WHERE DO I STUDY?

You will study at South Thames College - Merton Campus. The Campus address is Merton Campus, Morden Park, London Road, Morden, Surrey SM4 5QX.

WHERE DO I TRAIN?

 The main training base is at Tooting & Mitcham United FC, which boasts a superb all-weather facility.

HOW OFTEN WILL I TRAIN & PLAY?

Your football schedule will be based on training three mornings per week (6 hours total) on an all-weather pitch to improve your technical, tactical & physical development. These will all be put into practice on a match-day each week whilst wearing the AFC Wimbledon shirt. Here are some of the teams you could be playing against:
