Dons extend Adam's loan

21 August 2014

Defender to stay with club until January

We are delighted to announce that Wimbledon have managed to extend the loan of centre-back Adam Barrett until 4 January, 2015.

Having made such a big impression since joining Wimbledon, Neal Ardley has moved to keep the vastly experienced defender for a longer spell at the club.

Barrett (pictured winning a header in typical fashion) initially joined the Dons on a two-month loan deal before the opener against Shrewsbury Town after an injury to Andy Frampton, but his club Gillingham have now given him the green light to stay for an extra three months.

In a further boost, 34-year-old Barrett will also be allowed to play in knockout competitions with the Dons having matches to play in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the FA Cup.

Barrett has formed a formidable centre-back partnership with captain Alan Bennett with Wimbledon keeping clean sheets in the wins at Luton Town and Southend United.

Neal Ardley said: “To get a player of Adam’s quality in the first place is a big deal, but to keep him for such a difficult period of the season is a real positive for us. The loan deal will keep Adam here until after Christmas and we can then assess it from there.”
