Defender eager to extend unbeaten home run

Adam Barrett believes the Dons can challenge at the right end of the table this season if they can build on their strong home form.

Wimbledon host Tranmere this Saturday on the back of a creditable point against Plymouth that extended their unbeaten home run to five games in all competitions.

“We’ve had some fantastic performances this season, but also disappointing results too. The team has been strong at home recently though and if we can win on Saturday then we will put ourselves right back in the hunt for promotion. And Barrett, who was a part of Gillingham’s League 2 title winning side in 2013, said:

“We’ve made it a tough place for teams to come and play at home in the last month so we want to continue that. When you get a clean sheet it’s not just about the back four. Defending starts with the front two and it’s about everyone working together and putting a shift in to help the team.

“Dannie Bulman and Sammy Moore are both grafters and they work their socks off for the team. They make it hard for the opposition, but everyone put a shift in against Plymouth and we were happy with a point.”

James Shea was key to keeping out Plymouth and Barrett believes the 23-year-old goalkeeper has a bright future ahead of him.

“James is a young lad, but he very is confident and calm,” added Barrett. “He pulled off good saves against Plymouth and everything he did was very assured. James is a baby in goalkeeping terms and he’s only going to get better. He has an old head on young shoulders and I think he has a bright future ahead of him.”
