Ade's key aim for JPT

Striker on tonight's Southend tie

Ade Azeez is aiming to show that he can be a part of AFC Wimbledon’s future in tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Southend United after being restricted to cameo roles so far this season.

The 20-year-old striker’s first League 2 goal for Wimbledon failed to prevent his new club from losing to Stevenage on Saturday, but Azeez is eager to build on his late contribution.

Speaking to Rob Cornell during an interview for Dons Player, the former Charlton striker believes he has already become a better player since joining Wimbledon after learning from first-choice strikers Matt Tubbs and Bayo Akinfenwa.

“I’ve had limited chances so far because their partnership has been doing really well, but I feel that I’ve been learning all the time from Matt and Bayo in training,” said Azeez. “They are different types of strikers. I’m trying to adapt my game by taking in aspects of Matt’s movement and I want to learn from Bayo’s strength and hold-up play.

“Every striker wants to get off the mark as soon as they can, but my first goal was bitter-sweet as it came a bit late to save us on Saturday. We just want to go out there tonight and produce a fearless performance. We want to get a win for the club and our fans so that we can go further in the competition.”

And Ade has been impressed by the talent coming through since he joined Wimbledon in the summer.

“We have some excellent young players, who are all hungry to take their chances and hopefully they will show what they can do,” added Azeez. “I’m working hard to learn from the manager and his coaching staff every day in training. First and foremost I want us to win tonight and it will just be a bonus if I score again.”

The full interview with Ade Azeez appeared on Dons Player yesterday, along with an update from Simon Bassey.
