Experienced striker talks exclusively to Dons Player

Bayo Akinfenwa says he’s even more motivated to show what he can do in an AFC Wimbledon shirt after positive feedback from Dons fans since joining the club.

During an exclusive interview for Dons Player, the experienced striker has been taken aback by the attention he’s received from Wimbledon fans on Twitter and at last Thursday’s Meet the Manager event.

man. Long may that continue because we are all striving to be successful.th “The admiration and excitement I am getting from fans can only make me feel good,” said Bayo. “It therefore makes me want to work hard and achieve things for the AFC Wimbledon fans. I am enjoying it so far and we all have to be in it together. Just as the players will be working hard on the pitch, we want the fans to help us off it and be our 12

“I am sure there will be games during the season when we do not get the desired results, but as long as we’re all striving for the same goal then we will be okay. It surprises me the attention that I get with 80,000 Twitter followers. I’ve never got to the Premier League but in some ways I am more known than players at that level. I certainly don’t complain. It seems that people like me so I will continue in the same way.”

Bayo added it’s been easy to settle in at a new club as he’s one of nine summer additions – and the majority are experienced players.

“It’s always nice when there are a few new players coming into a squad rather than you being the only one,” said Bayo. “There are nine new players and we’ve all been made to feel very welcome by those players who were already here. It’s a big cliché, but it feels like we’ve been together as a squad longer. We all want to play good football and we’re striving for one common goal and that’s to be successful.

“The outcome of the first game against Margate was not what we were looking for, but at this stage of the season it’s not about results. It’s about the new players getting to know each other and how we want to play. We have to take the positives out of the game and look forward to Chelsea. It’s all gearing up towards our first league game against Shrewsbury. Hopefully, we will be celebrating a lot more positives than negatives next season.
