Get behind Marc's challenge

20 March 2014

Founder member to captain an AFC Wimbledon team

One of AFC Wimbledon’s founder members is gearing up for the London to Amsterdam charity bike ride  – and you can get behind his challenge.

Marc Jones will be participating in the 150-mile endurance test, starting on Friday, 6 June, which will raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK, the Football League’s official charity partner.

Marc will be captaining a Dons team in the event and there’s an opportunity to sponsor his efforts or even join him at the start line from Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium.

“I’m delighted to skipper AFC Wimbledon in this exciting adventure and at the same time raise money and awareness for an amazing cause. It would be great if the ever-generous AFC Wimbledon supporters would get behind the Dons by supporting the cause. If any of our cycling nuts want join me in the peloton and wear their club colours with pride they are more than welcome!” One in eight men will be affected by prostate cancer in the UK, and Marc Jones said:

Riders representing all 72 Football League clubs will join former England star Luther Blissett en route to the Netherlands. Starting from Leyton Orient on Friday, 6 June, the cyclists will be heading out of London through rural English countryside, before stopping off at a second ground, Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium, for refreshments.

After completing the 90-mile sojourn to Harwich by dusk, the intrepid team will cross the Channel overnight, before riding a further 60 miles across the flat landscape of Dutch Zeeland. The climax sees the peloton arrive in Amsterdam with its network of canals, cobbled streets and wonderful architecture.

Luther Blissett, who will represent Prostate Cancer UK in the event, said: “Get your World Cup fever on and ride to Amsterdam with me and a bunch of fantastic people from across The Football League. If last year was anything to go by, we’re going to have a great time on the way and when we get there. Sign up, challenge yourself, and raise money to support the 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK.”
