Brendan leaves Wimbledon

8 April 2013

Neal Ardley explains his decision

Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has announced that Brendan Kiernan has left the club by mutual consent.

The 20-year-old’s opportunities have been limited this season and Neal Ardley has therefore allowed Brendan a chance to find another club.

I want to thank him on behalf of the club and we wish him every success in his future career.” “Brendan has a lot of talent, but he needs to be playing and at the moment we can’t offer him that opportunity,” said the Wimbledon boss. “So we talked about it and decided it would be best for him if he was free to join another club at the earliest opportunity.

Brendan, who can in midfield or on the wing, came through the ranks at Wimbledon after leaving Crystal Palace in 2009. After progressing from AFC Wimbledon’s College Academy programme into the first-team squad, Brendan made his debut as a substitute in the 3-1 defeat at Crawley Town on 18 March, 2011. He was later handed his first Wimbledon start by Terry Brown in the 0-0 draw at Forest Green – a result that confirmed the Dons as Conference National runners-up during the club’s promotion season.

Brendan made 15 league appearances in total, including four starts, and he scored his one and only senior goal in the 3-1 Capital One Cup defeat at Stevenage in August.
