Dons must put "poor performance" right
Dannie Bulman believes Wimbledon will be capable of producing a positive response against Southend United tonight after defeat at Hartlepool and he feels the current squad is stronger than it has been all season.
The combative midfielder, who struck his first Dons goal in great style against Luton Town 10 days ago, accepted it was a “poor performance” at Hartlepool on Saturday.
However, Bulman says his side cannot afford to dwell on it against a Southend side aiming to enhance their promotion claims tonight.
Speaking to Rob Cornell in an interview for Dons Player, Bulman said: “Sometimes it does not click for you and it was an off day for us. There was not much in the game and they were fighting for their lives. It was a poor performance from us and we have to move on. You can come in (at training) and sulk, but that’s not going to do anyone any favours. The only way we can put Saturday right is on Tuesday. We will dust ourselves down after Saturday and hopefully you will see a reaction.
“We recently beat Luton at home and have beaten other good teams at our place. It is probably the first time this season that there has been good competition in the squad. The options we have from the bench have never been stronger.
“It’s all about hard work; the harder you work, the luckier you get. We just need to knuckle down and try to build some momentum. We want to get a run going again.”
Bulman’s first Wimbledon goal finally arrived against Luton Town 10 days ago and he hopes it has gone some way to appeasing Dons supporters after a light-hearted exchange at last summer’s Meet the Manager event!
“In pre-season we had a Q & A and there was a question about getting more goals from midfield,” Dannie recalled. “There was an old man, though he was probably about the same age as me to be fair, piping up about it, so it‘s nice to finally get a goal. I had come close on a few occasions and I was just saving it up really. It was great to get off the mark at last and to get that monkey off my back.”
