Having kept the core of Burton’s side that came so close to going up last season and strengthened this summer, Gary Rowett will be expected to mount a promotion charge. The former Everton and Birmingham player has made a good start to his managerial career, but he will be aiming to deliver on that promise by taking Burton into League 1 for the first time. Rowett appears to have strengthened both in attack and defence. The permanent capture of Australian defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff after his impressive loan spell from Preston last season looks to be an astute addition. At the other end, Stuart Beavon is likely to flourish at League 2 level after signing on loan from Preston.
