Neal Ardley allows winger to pursue first-team football
AFC Wimbledon today reached an agreement to cancel Chris Arthur’s contract by mutual consent and the winger has joined Woking on a permanent basis.
Neal Ardley said that the 24-year-old winger (pictured) wished to go elsewhere in search of regular first-team football.
“We held half season reviews with all of the players and Chris reiterated his desire to play regular football,” Neal revealed. “I could not guarantee Chris that and we looked at the best possible way for him to do this. We therefore agreed to cancel his contract by mutual consent. I wish Chris every success at Woking and in his future career.”
Chris signed for AFC Wimbledon from Havant & Waterlooville in the summer of 2013 and made a bright start that included a winning goal in the 3-2 win against Scunthorpe United. However, he suffered a fractured ankle that restricted his progress.
Chris made 26 appearances in total for the Dons, including two starts, and he has spent the majority of this season on loan at Woking (he is pictured right above scoring for Wimbledon against Woking in a pre-season friendly). His only Wimbledon first-team game in 2014/15 came as a substitute in the Capital One Cup match at Milton Keynes.
