Dons Ladies close in on more honours

AFC Wimbledon Ladies secured a semi-final place in the Surrey County Cup with an impressive victory at Crystal Palace reserves.

A resounding 5-0 last-eight victory set the Dons up nicely to for Sunday's return to league action as Chris Lyons' side can take a step closer to winning the London and South East Regional Women’s Premier League at home to Camden (2.00 pm kick-off at Sutton United).

With the Eagles first-team riding high at the top of Women’s Premier South East Division One League, the Dons continued their defence of the Surrey County Cup with a dominant display against a Palace reserve side at the Mayfield Stadium.

Following Emma Keady’s early strike after a goalmouth scramble, new signing Laura Low put the Dons 2-0 up just before half-time with a clinical strike after Keady turned provider.

The second half started in the same manner as the first period with the visitors in control. On 51 minutes the Dons went further ahead as good build-up down the right between Sian Wylie and Low ended with a Palace defender’s attempted clearance hitting the back of the net.

In a game that saw the Dons look dangerous from set plays, they utilised their height and organisation well. It was no surprise that the fourth and fifth goals came from corners. Rebecca Sargent (pictured above) rose well on 57 minutes to head home a Libby Suchley corner and 20 minutes minutes from time Wylie stabbed home a Clifford corner.
