Dons in FA Youth Cup

22 October 2015

Cup tie v Woking is next Tuesday

Supporters can get behind AFC Wimbledon’s young talents in the FA Youth Cup first round at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday 27 October (7.45 pm kick-off).

The young Dons take on Woking aiming to make progress in the national competition and it’s a big week for Mark Robinson’s squad as they also host Swindon in the regional quarter final of the Youth Alliance Cup.

First though, its Cambridge at home in the league this Saturday and Mark Robinson has called on his players to produce a “positive reaction” ahead of their cup ties after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Gillingham.

Wimbledon fell behind early on last Saturday when Ben Chapman opened the scoring for Gills and it was 2-0 to the visitors before half-time through Noel Mbo.

The Dons started with greater intensity after the interval and Jason Stripp (pictured) swung in a corner that could not be kept out by the goalkeeper to reduce the arrears.

However, Bradley Stevenson struck an unstoppable shot to make it 3-1 and it got worse for Wimbledon when Dan Ano was sent off.

Mark Robinson said: “Players will make mistakes and make the wrong decisions and I have no issue with that because it is all part of their development. However, there are certain other qualities that must remain a constant when they pull on a Wimbledon shirt and I made that very clear to them at half-time. To be honest, I am not happy to waste a half-time team talk reminding them about those qualities.

“We have a good week or so ahead with Cambridge at home in the league, Woking at home in the FA Youth Cup and then Swindon in the quarter-final of the Youth Alliance Cup. All the squad will have a part to play in these three games and I will be looking for a positive reaction.”

All at AFC Wimbledon wish Gillingham’s Joe Nougbele a speedy recovery after he suffered a bad injury in Saturday’s match.

Entry prices are £5 for adults and £2 for Under-18s at Tuesday night’s game.
