First-team and development side both in league action

AFC Wimbledon Ladies are back in league action this Sunday with both of the club’s senior teams flying high in their respective divisions.

The ladies first-team, currently third in the London and South East Regional Women’s Premier League, warmed up for a return to competitive action with a 2-2 draw at Chichester last weekend. Manager Chris Lyons (pictured centre above) has transformed the club’s fortunes this season since taking over with Dons Ladies having finished bottom in 2013/14.

The AFC Wimbledon Ladies development team will be aiming to consolidate top spot in Greater London Women's League Division One when they entertain Petts Wood on Sunday at Archbishop Tenison’s Sports Ground (12 midday kick-off).

They go into this match with confidence high after pushing Crystal Palace all the way in the FA Women’s Cup last Sunday. The Dons led 1-0 at half-time and they were eventually beaten 3-1 after extra-time against a Palace side three divisions above them in the league pyramid.

Manager Roland Harding said: “I’m immensely proud of all the Wimbledon players. I thought they did exceptionally well. They gave a very good account of themselves and you could see from the reaction of the supporters at the end how well they did.”
