Author will be signing copies of book before game
Author Jim Keoghan will today at the Mansfield game be signing copies of a book that chronicles the success of AFC Wimbledon as a fans-owned club.
The book called Punk Football charts “The Rise of Fan Ownership in English Football” and is available at a special price of £10 (usual price £14.99).
Jim will be at the club shop and around the stadium from 12 noon today to promote a story that tells how supporters have made the journey from the terraces to the boardroom. Initially intrigued by the rise of AFC Wimbledon, Jim was drawn into a world in which ordinary fans have started new clubs of their own, taken a stake in the ones they followed, and sometimes saved clubs from disappearing altogether.
Punk Football has touched every part of the game, challenging the private model of ownership that has dominated football for over a century. There have been highs and lows, successes and failures, but through it all the dogged determination of fans to be something more than customers has shone through. This book features supporters who have done just that with a focus on non league FC United of Manchester’s formation and AFC Wimbledon’s rise to the Football League.
