Double quest for Dons

Chris Lyons' side look to retain County Cup

AFC Wimbledon Ladies picked up the London and South East Women’s Regional - Premier Division title on Sunday and they’ll be aiming for more silverware this Thursday evening.

The side were presented with the league trophy and their medals after a 2-1 victory at Herne Bay Ladies and they finished the campaign unbeaten. Next season they'll be competing in the FA Women's Premier League - South East Division One.

On Thursday the first team, guided by manager Chris Lyons (pictured centre above), look to make it a season-ending double and a successful defence of their title when they take on Crystal Palace Ladies for the Surrey County Women's Cup, kick off at 7.30pm at Leatherhead FC.

The Dons Ladies face a tough task though and your support would be most welcome. Palace have just achieved promotion from the division AFC Wimbledon Ladies will be playing in next season. They will now be competing in Premier League - South.

Of course, spectators are welcome to attend the match and the full address for Leatherhead FC is as follows: Fetcham Grove, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 9AS.

Whatever the outcome, it promises to be quite a game. Entry for supporters has been kept at the same prices as last year, of £5 for adults and £3 for OAPs and under-15s.

Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, the development side finished as runners-up in the Capital Women's Intermediate Cup.

They lost 3-0 to Charlton Athletic Women's reserves in the final at Wealdstone FC, but goalkeeper Emma Marlow was named Player of the Match.

It's not just at first-team and development level though that the Ladies and Girls have excelled at again this season.

Remarkably, they have a side in every women’s and girls Surrey County Cup final and on Sunday the under-14s beat Carshalton Athletic 1-0 at Horley Town FC.
