Jim on his magic moment
Young full-back talks about making the step-up
Jim Fenlon believes his first goal in senior football last night is a positive sign that he is starting to adjust to the demands of playing in League 2 on a regular basis.
Whatever the 18-year-old full-back goes on to achieve in his career, his goal at the Kassam Stadium will always be a special moment, especially as it was a 25-yard screamer.
Speaking to Dons Player, Jim admitted he is not expecting to repeat such exploits regularly and has been concentrating more on improving his fitness to cope with the demands of stepping up to senior level.
“The first couple of games that I played this season was a big difference for me,” Jim said. “But now I am starting to get used to it. My fitness is getting better and I am getting used to the physical side of games. Once or twice a week I have been working with Jason Moriarty (fitness coach) in the gym on my weaknesses. I had been getting cramp towards the end of games, but I did not get it today. “
On his goal and last night’s 3-2 defeat, Jim added: “I just cut in and let fly and I was happy to see it go in the back of the net. I scored on my debut for the reserves and got two or three last season. The last couple of weeks we have been playing well, but we have not been clinical enough in front of goal and it has been sloppy from us in terms of defending.”
