The 2014/15 countdown

Build-up to new season as part of FL campaign

League 2 managers around the country are busy fine-tuning their squads ahead of the big kick-off in just 17 days and we’re building up to the season by profiling all of Wimbledon’s opponents.

We’ve been counting down to the start of 2014/15 by featuring all the club’s on Wimbledon’s fixture list - in reverse order – as part of the Football League’s “Wall of Colour” campaign.

AFC Wimbledon will be encouraging fans to wear their scarves, shirts, rosettes, hats, and anything else in blue and yellow to help the Dons to victory against Shrewsbury. We are also planning to run an event on Saturday, 9 August, to fit in with the Football League’s aim to celebrate the new season at clubs all around the country.

The seventh club to feature in our countdown is Dagenham & Redbridge.

Manager Wayne Burnett (pictured) deservedly earned plenty of plaudits for guiding the Daggers to a top-10 finish last season – a big improvement after only surviving on the final day of 2012/13. He will face another test of his managerial credentials to maintain upward momentum after key defender Luke Wilkinson departed for Luton Town and goalkeeper Chris Lewington left for a fresh challenge at Colchester United. Ironically, Mark Cousins has come in from Colchester to help fill the goalkeeping void and he will battle it out with former Brentford goalkeeper Liam O’Brien for the number one jersey. Burnett has continued the Daggers tradition of gambling on non league talent with defender Nathan Green joining from Tonbridge Angels, though former Cambridge United and York City winger Ashley Chambers has already shown what he can do at League 2 level.
