Francomb fit for Stevenage

28 April 2016

Update from Neil Cox ahead of key match

Neil Cox confirmed that George Francomb returned to full training today and he is ready to be back in the squad for Stevenage.

Francomb missed Tuesday's defeat to Portsmouth due to a thigh injury, but he is now back in contention for a recall on Saturday.

Wimbledon’s assistant manager provided an upbeat bulletin on the squad’s fitness and spirit, ahead of a match at the Lamex Stadium when the Dons could seal a play-off place.

Saturday’s opponents earned a 2-1 victory here in December, but it was a defeat that paved the way for a superb run of Wimbledon form as seven out of the next 10 games ended in victories.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neil Cox said: “George trained this morning and that’s a plus for us. We managed to get 45 minutes into Jake Reeves the other night and he’s also trained well today. We have near enough a full squad to choose from and the manager will have one or two decisions to make. Everyone is fit and raring to go and everyone wants to play, which is the main thing.

“The boys have been on fire today, they know they have a job to do. We want this game to come as quickly as possible and to get on with it really. It’s about us getting three points on Saturday. We did not play well against Stevenage last time, but after that we went on a fantastic run of games, and it was a little turning point.

“I thought we put in a good performance against Portsmouth the other night, but we just got beaten by a better side on the night. We will be strong, fit, and organised on Saturday and we will be going there for the win.”

Neil also spoke enthusiastically about the significance a victory would mean to the club’s supporters with our volunteers’ away day taking place this Saturday at Stevenage.

“It would be fantastic,” said Neil. “We have to thank them for the jobs that they do. They spend their time helping the football club out in all different ways. It would be great if we could do it on this day so that the fans can really enjoy the away day.”

The full update from Neil Cox with Rob Cornell posing the questions is now on Dons Player. An interview with Jake Reeves is also on our premium channel.
