Goals mission for George

24 October 2014

Winger focuses on Tranmere

George Francomb says belief is strong that Wimbledon can hit the goals trail again – and he’s eager to chip in himself after missing a great chance against Plymouth.

The winger was still rueing that miss when we spoke to him yesterday, but his mind is focused on making amends against Tranmere.

However, more importantly he believes the Dons have enough about them going forward to end their mini scoring drought of two games.

Speaking to Dons Player, Francomb said: “I’ve been replaying that chance in my head for the last few days because I was absolutely devastated with it. But it’s gone now and if I get another chance like that then I will make sure I bury it! I know we’ve not scored in two games, but you can see that there are goals in the team. Last season we lacked a cutting edge going forward, but this season it’s just a matter of time when we score.

“Anything can happen in this league and we just have to be brave. We have to believe that we can push for promotion this season. There are so many teams that will be thinking that, but we have to make it happen on the pitch and get up there.”

First of all though, bottom of the table Tranmere stand in Wimbledon’s way – and Francomb says they must block out any negative thoughts about their previous form against lowly teams.

“I’ve noticed our form against the teams below us and it does not make for great reading,” added Francomb. “But we cannot afford to think about that and we need to go into this match with the same mentality we’ve shown in the last four home games. We’ve won three and drawn one out of our last four home games and we have to keep that going. We seem to have a real buzz about us when we play at home and we have to show that same energy again.”
