Midfielder looks forward to Plymouth on Monday
George Francomb said that a half-time dressing down from Neal Ardley spurred on Wimbledon’s players to produce a much-improved second-half performance against Newport County yesterday.
Though the Dons conceded again barely a minute after the break to go 2-0 down, Wimbledon’s second-half display was far removed from a first-half offering that Neal Ardley described as “awful” in his post-match interview.
Speaking to Rob Cornell during an interview for Dons Player, Francomb said: “Our first-half display was not good enough and it’s as simple as that. We did not start at all. But the manager came in and told us a few home truths. He said that we had to up our game. We then went 2-0 down, but it showed the character of the team to get back to 2-2. We want to win these sort of games, but after being 2-0 down we’ll take a draw in the end. It was a better second-half performance and hopefully we can build on that at Plymouth.”
Francomb netted his third goal in eight games against Newport and he is looking forward to showing what he can do once again at Plymouth on Easter Monday.
“I’m really pleased with the goals that I’ve got lately,” added the attacking midfielder. “Kwesi Appiah has been brilliant since he came here and I’m glad that he got on the scoresheet too. The Plymouth match is the sort of game that you want to go and play in. It’s a nice stadium and we should be playing on a good pitch. We’ll go there and try and impose our game on them. We will not be going there just to get a point because we want to finish the season strongly and it would be excellent if we could go there and get the three points.”
