Ex-Norwich man sets sights higher for second spell
George Francomb said he has “unfinished business” at AFC Wimbledon and he believes that Neal Ardley is the manager who will get the best out of him as a player.

“It was disappointing that I had to leave last season and I feel that I have unfinished business here in a way,” George said. “I was behind the team after I left because the fans and the club had been so good to me. I was rooting for Wimbledon during the season and I dropped a few text messages to players when they were trying to stay up. I was buzzing for them when they did it.
“I want to hit the ground running next season, produce good performances, and hopefully we can be challenging at the other end of the table. As soon as Neal Ardley came in he was different class, especially because he moved me up into midfield. He knows how to get the best out of me and that was a major factor in why I wanted to come here. I have spoken to the manager about where he wants me to play and obviously he has already brought in Barry Fuller as right-back. I will be playing as a right midfielder or in the centre. That is where I want to be playing so that I can have a positive impact at the other end of the field.”
Following previous loan spells at Barnet and Hibernian, where he played in a Scottish Cup Final, and after just a handful of games with Norwich City, George added that now is a great time for his move to AFC Wimbledon.
“I am still only 21 years of age,” added George, who turned down two League 1 clubs to join Wimbledon. “Even though I have played around 50-60 games in England and Scotland, I need to get a full season under my belt. I want to get two or three seasons of playing regularly and hopefully get back up, whether that is with Wimbledon moving up the leagues or kicking on in my own career.
“Over the summer I have working hard and I kept in touch with Neal Ardley and Simon Bassey. I am delighted to have signed now. Anything can happen in this league; if we develop a good team spirit, get the ball down and play and keep working hard then I do not see any reason why we cannot challenge for the play-offs.”
