Fuller ready for a battle

Vice-captain on Morecambe test

Barry Fuller says the Dons will have to be up for a battle at Morecambe on Saturday if they want to build on their first victory of 2015 and stay within reach of the play-off places.

The Wimbledon vice-captain (pictured) knows that his team will need to roll their sleeves up against a Morecambe side two places above them in the League 2 table.

“The manager will have us well prepared to take on a big, physical side,” said Fuller. “That’s the most important thing and we have to go to Morecambe and be ready for a battle. If we’re not then we will make it very difficult for ourselves.

“We believe that when we’re on it as a team we can compete with anyone in this league. We want to go there and get the three points and that’s our target. We’re pushing up towards where we want to be now because we are just five points off the play-off places with a game in hand. We need to take each game as it comes though and Morecambe away will be a tough one. It was a great result against Accrington and the three points were all that mattered.”

Experienced full-back Fuller was full of praise for a youngster aiming to make his way in the game with 19-year-old academy product Will Nightingale enjoying a solid debut at the back.

“Will is an old-fashioned centre-back who heads everything and does what needs to be done,” added Fuller. “In League 2 if you do that then you will have a long career and hopefully that was the first of many games for Will. It was a dream debut for him and I thought he was immense. Will had shown that he had the quality during training and for the Under-21s. It was unfortunate that Jake Goodman got injured, but Will took his chance.”
