Francomb took matters into his own hands

Neal Ardley was for once happy that one of his players ignored training ground instructions after George Francomb struck a majestic winner at Southend last night.

Francomb curled home brilliantly after a free-kick had been played into his path by Sean Rigg and Wimbledon’s match-winner is pictured above receiving the congratulations of team-mate Sammy Moore afterwards (photograph by Paul Willatts).

And during an interview with Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Neal certainly had no complaints about Francomb’s decision on this occasion!

“We’ve got a couple of free-kick routines that we’ve been working on and we wanted the players to try them,” Neal said. “I think they were in the middle of trying one of them when George changed his mind and decided it was not on. If he wants to do that then we will certainly take it!”

The dual threat of Francomb and Sean Rigg down the wings has provided an extra attacking edge to Wimbledon’s attacking play so far this season. Neal Ardley says that new boy Rigg’s all-action displays down the left make him a nightmare for full-backs to deal with.

“Sean is involved in everything,” added Neal. “I’ve been crediting a lot of the players, but Sean was phenomenal tonight with his energy down the flank. I would have hated to mark him!

The full interview with Neal Ardley will feature on Dons Player shortly and Callum Kennedy talks about grabbing his second Dons chance with both hands on our premium channel later.
