Dons girls clinch glory

Another successful season for AFC Wimbledon girls

It was another successful season for AFC Wimbledon Girls Under-12s as they built on a superb unbeaten run to clinch the Surrey County Girls League Premier title.

The girls are pictured above after winning the league once more after they triumphed in season 2012/13 as Under-11s, manager Fawwad Uddin guiding them to glory on both occasions.

Last season’s success was particularly praiseworthy after a rocky start to the campaign that included two defeats in the first four games for AFC Wimbledon. However, excellent comeback victories against Crystal Palace and Croydon formed part of an unbeaten run that lasted until after Christmas and that provided the platform for title glory.

The Dons earned a vital 1-0 win against Croydon in their penultimate game that effectively won them the league as Abbey Rangers failed to show up for Wimbledon’s final scheduled match.

Though Wimbledon just missed out on a double as they were beaten 2-1 in the Surrey League Cup Final by Croydon, it had nevertheless been a very successful season.

Under-12s manager Fawwad Uddin said: “It was a season full of thrills, spills and excitement, but so many good memories. Well done to all the girls, support staff and parents for another highly enjoyable season.”
