Byron joins Cheltenham

31 January 2013

Striker leaves Wimbledon for the Robins

to Cheltenham Town for an undisclosed sum. We can confirm that Byron Harrison has tonight been transferred

The 25-year-old striker joined Cheltenham just before the January transfer window closed at 11.00 pm.

Byron, who signed for the Dons during the 2012 January transfer window, recaptured his best this season and struck nine League 2 goals before November was out. A back injury restricted his progress during the past two months, but Byron returned recently to play his part in Wimbledon’s recent improvement.

All at AFC Wimbledon thank Byron for his contribution in a Dons shirt and we wish him all the best with the Robins.

Byron leaves Wimbledon having scored 10 League 2 goals overall and Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley praised the player’s contribution since he took over as manager in October.

“Byron has been brilliant for us,” said Neal Ardley. “There was interest from Cheltenham earlier in the season, but Byron wanted to stay and prove people wrong by scoring goals at Wimbledon. He has been hit by a back injury lately, but he has all the attributes to be a top striker. I would have had no problems with Byron staying if it never worked out with Cheltenham, but he has met with them and it appears to be the right move for him.”
