Midfielder on signing for the Dons
Jake Reeves wished he had never left AFC Wimbledon and the midfielder revealed that he turned down an opportunity to stay with League One Swindon Town.
Speaking during an interview with Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Jake (pictured in his previous loan spell with the Dons), believes he has unfinished business at Wimbledon and he’s determined to give his all in blue and yellow again after signing today.
“I was not getting much game-time at Swindon and when they offered me another contract I had to turn it down,” said Jake. “I did not want to go back to Brentford when they recalled me during my previous time here because I wanted to stay and play games. Hopefully I can do that now. I think that Neal Ardley is a brilliant manager; I was only 19 when I came here on loan and I didn't want to leave partly because of him.
“I think I’m definitely a better player than during my previous spell here. Playing in the season when Brentford went up and with Swindon made me a better player and hopefully I can show that on the pitch here.”
The 21-year-old can’t wait to be a part of AFC Wimbledon’s squad after being impressed with the performance against Liverpool on Monday night.
“I thought the boys did really well and they were unlucky,” added Jake. “They made Liverpool look shaky at times. It looked good the other night and if we can carry that form into the rest of the season then there’s no reason why we can’t rise up the table.
“I want to get a run of games under my belt and get my goal scoring record up. I’ll work as hard as I can get to get into the team and stay there.”
Neal Ardley believes he has pulled off a transfer coup and he was particularly impressed with Jake’s desire to play for Wimbledon again.
“Other clubs threw their hats into the ring, but credit to Jake because he wanted to come to Wimbledon from day one,” Neal said. “He never wavered and from my point of view that’s great. The lad said that he wanted to come to Wimbledon and work with a manager who knew him. It’s fantastic that he wants to be a part of it here.”
