Dons Ladies v Fulham at the club on Sunday

AFC Wimbledon Ladies will be aiming to make progress in the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday (2.00 pm kick-off) and vice-captain Libby Suchley believes the club are in great shape to achieve success this season.

The Dons host Fulham Foundation FC in the first qualifying round at the Cherry Red Records Stadium aiming to build on their fine start to 2014/15. Despite defeat to Old Actonians last weekend, AFC Wimbledon Ladies are fourth in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division – a far cry from last season when they finished rock-bottom with no wins.

New manager Chris Lyons completely overhauled Wimbledon’s squad during the summer with Libby Suchley one of the key players to arrive.

Libby said: “We’ve brought a lot of players into the club in a short space of time, but I’ve been very impressed by how quickly we’ve all gelled. We want to do well in the FA Cup and get promotion out of this division in time. I was previously at Bracknell Town, where Chris Lyons coached me for a while, and I got the call from him to have a look at the set-up and the structure at Wimbledon in the summer.

"I’ve been impressed by the ‘one club’ philosophy that Chris is aiming to install. We have a good development structure in place now and Chris has also been down to watch AFC Wimbledon’s men in training.

“We had a fantastic pre-season and the coaching was really good. We have a new first-team physio and fitness coach and they have been putting us through our paces. I believe all of this will stand us in good stead this season.”

Spectators are welcome at Sunday’s FA Women’s Cup tie at the Cherry Red Records Stadium with FREE admission for all.
