Lovers Rock at its best this Saturday

It promises to be an entertaining Saturday night at the club with Janet Kay and Carroll Thompson taking to the stage as part of a Lovers Rock special.

There are still tickets left for the Kingsmeadow Live return this weekend of a pair that went down a storm in April, 2013, in what was a sell-out gig.

for a sample of their musical talents.Lovers RockJanet and Carroll are renowned flag bearers of Lovers Rock, a style of reggae music that rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, and their performances last year at the club really caught the imagination. Click on

Janet Kay is best known in the UK for her hit single ‘Silly Games’, which was first released in 1979 and made her the first British black female reggae artist to top the UK pop charts. Since then, Janet has had plenty of success and her version of Minnie Ripperton’s ‘Loving You’ led to a massive hit in Japan in 1991. That led to a deal for Janet with Sony Music Japan that involved producing six albums in 12 years. Known affectionately as the ‘Queen of Lovers Rock’, Janet is currently recording her new album.

Carroll Thompson's voice was nurtured while singing in school and church choirs, and she subsequently embarked on a singing career. By 1981, Carroll had topped the reggae chart twice with "I'm Sorry" and "Simply In Love". Carroll also went onto record duets with Sugar Minott ("Make It With You") and Trevor Walters ("Love Won't Let Us Wait").
