Luke: Jon was a top striker

14 January 2014

Ex-Dons forward praised ahead of Gossip, Goals and Glory

Luke Moore says that AFC Wimbledon's standing as a Football League club owes a lot to the past goalscoring exploits of Jon Main and supporters can hear from the man himself at our Gossip, Goals and Glory event.

With such a guest list, there’s sure to be laughs-a-plenty at the event at The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Friday, 24 January. Jon (pictured celebrating a vital goal at Hampton & Richmond) will be joined by Alan Inns, Ben Judge, Dave Anderson and Simon Bassey to talk about the club’s remarkable rise up the leagues.

Though his warm personality made him a favourite with Dons supporters, Jon’s prowess in front of goal is what he is most remember for by former team-mates and fans alike.

Sammy Moore said: “Before I joined the club, Jon’s name kept popping up in the Non League Paper and when I came here you could see the potential that he had. Jon was probably the best finisher I’ve ever played with. He was bubbly around the place too and was a great character to have around.”

Luke Moore added that AFC Wimbledon may not be in the Football League today without the contribution of the striker signed from Tonbridge Angels in November, 2007. Jon’s best season came in 2008/09 when he helped the Dons to the Conference South title with a spectacular haul of 33 goals.

“If it was not for ‘Mainy’ the club would not be in the position it is today,” said Luke. “The amount of goals he scored in the Ryman League, Conference South, and the Conference was phenomenal. A goalscorer is a goalscorer at any level and Jon was definitely a top striker.”
