Focus on Morecambe as part of build-up to season
It’s now just nine days until 2014/15 gets underway and we’ve been counting down to the new season by featuring all of Wimbledon’s opponents.
Today we focus on Morecambe and it's honours even in clashes against the Dons since Wimbledon’s return to the Football League in 2011. Both clubs have two wins each in six matches between Wimbledon and Morecambe during the last three seasons.

Wimbledon have had a mixed time of it against the Shrimps since promotion to League 2 and the very first meeting was undoubtedly the high point. Christian Jolley’s superb goal earned a 2-1 win that lifted the Dons up to third spot in October, 2011. Since then, only a 2-0 win in March, 2013, stands out as a good memory of playing Morecambe as it was a victory that would ultimately turn out to be crucial in a great escape for the Dons. In turn, manager Jim Bentley (pictured) engineered a 3-0 win at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in April that helped ease any fears at the Globe Arena that Morecambe would be sucked into a scrap for survival themselves.
Bentley has earned a reputation as a manager capable of keeping Morecambe competitive on a budget much lower than the biggest clubs in League 2. His summer signings once again sum that up with former Everton youth teamer Tom McCready joining on non-contract terms, just two months after his brother Chris left the club. Jamie Devitt and Ryan Edwards both had loans spells at the club last season and they have both signed permanently after being released by Chesterfield and Blackburn respectively. Bentley’s habit of getting the best out of the resources at his disposal is likely to be needed if Morecambe are to steer clear of relegation once again.
