Neal: Callum sets example

Left-back has been "outstanding"

Callum Kennedy’s form since winning a recall has earned high praise – and Neal Ardley believes the left-back has set a fine example for other squad members to follow.

Kennedy (pictured) was brought back into Wimbledon’s side for the FA Cup second round tie at Wycombe Wanderers in early December and he hasn’t looked back since with nine successive starts, including helping the Dons to five victories.

Neal Ardley said: “Callum was not in the team when Jack Smith was playing, but he got his head down and was never a problem. He absolutely worked his socks off during training and tried to take himself onto the next level. Callum reflected upon what he had not been doing well enough before and when Jack got injured I asked him ‘Are you ready to play consistently?’ The answer was ‘yes’ and since then Callum has been outstanding.

“For players not in the team they should look at what Callum Kennedy did. They should think that about what this guy has done when they get their chance in the team.”

The Dons have a packed fixture schedule during February and Neal Ardley is pleased that he’s added greater depth to his squad during January.

"It's really tough when you have spells of playing three games in eight days and that's when you really need a squad," Neal added. "We need to get one or two players up to speed, but we have so many better options now. We now have more players that I would be happy to start with and long may that continue. We just need to get that momentum going in terms of results."
