Neal on Aaron leaving

The manager wishes Aaron well at Gillingham

Neal Ardley said that he did everything possible to keep Aaron Morris at AFC Wimbledon, but the lure of League 1 football proved too strong for the midfielder.

Aaron established himself as a regular with Wimbledon after joining in January as he made 17 league appearances to get his career back on track after suffering cruciate ligament damage.

Neal Ardley said: “Unfortunately, Aaron was offered a very good deal by Gillingham, which shows how well he did with us last season. We offered him the best deal possible that we could, but the lure of League 1 football was too strong. We wish Aaron all the best for the future and we would certainly welcome him back at Wimbledon.

“No one had heard of Aaron, Michael Smith or Jonathan Meades when we signed them, but they were all snapped up by other clubs after doing well here. That’s a positive for the club and the work that we do.”

The Wimbledon management team has an “extensive” list of targets to boost the squad this summer and Neil Cox said on Wednesday that they will be holding talks with three or four of them next week.

AFC Wimbledon wishes to thank Aaron Morris for his contribution in a Dons shirt.
