Wimbledon boss on improving his squad after Southend loss
Neal Ardley said that he will be looking to freshen up AFC Wimbledon’s squad during January after today’s defeat against Southend United.
Though Neal felt his side acquitted themselves well against a team currently in promotion contention, he believes that Wimbledon’s squad needs strengthening in the transfer window.
“When I look back at the match, Ross Worner hasn’t had an awful lot to do,” said Neal. “It was a fairly even match until the sending off. We’ve got to keep on believing in what we do and in January we’ll try to freshen things up a bit. We’ve got a plan that we want to put into practice for the second half of the season and we’ll look at that then. In the meantime, we’ve got to pick up a few points over the Christmas period. “

“At the time, I thought it was a ridiculous decision,” he added. “I couldn’t believe it because I thought the referee was going to give us a free-kick for their lad catching George quite high. It’s a bad decision, we’ve seen it since, and it’s even more laughable. When you watch it again, it’s the most ridiculous decision ever. I went in calmly to see the referee and told him that he needs to look at it again and say ‘how wrong did we get that one?’ They need to think twice next time if the standard of refereeing is to improve at this level.”
