Neal targets five more

Transfer update from the manager

Neal Ardley said there is no panic in his search for new talent and he is edging closer to bringing in more signings.

Speaking during an extensive interview for Dons Player after completing the signing of Jon Meades, Neal said: “I am not going to lie and say that we have got every target that we wanted. We have missed out on one or two because the lure of League 1 took them away from us. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up to that, but there is no panic.

"There are one or two players that I never thought we had a chance of signing and I am getting closer now than I have ever got. I am quite excited about that because they are players that would make a huge difference to us.

“We need five players and that is what I am aiming for. We are looking to get a couple of centre forwards, a couple of centre backs, and maybe a wide man who can play either side and offer something different to what we already have. I don’t want to hinder the progress of promising young players like Tom Beere and Will Nightingale.

“There is no point me going for a young centre back with potential. We have two outstanding young centre backs at the club and we want to bring in experience in that position. We want to add qualities with a wide man that we have not got and the centre forward position speaks for itself as we need goals. If we can add the ones that we want then we will be a force to be reckoned with.”

The full seven-minute update from Neal Ardley is now on Dons Player and an interview with Jon Meades will follow shortly.
