Planning application validated by the council

AFC Wimbledon’s planning application for a new community stadium in Plough Lane has been registered by Merton Council and the club will learn in approximately 16 weeks if it has been successful.

.websiteFollowing validation by Merton Council, a registration number for the submission by Galliard Homes and AFC Wimbledon has now been issued with documents available to view on the council’s

The next stage is that the council will embark on a statutory consultation process, which will include 4,500 letters being delivered by hand to local residents. In around 16 weeks, Merton Council’s planning committee will make a recommendation about whether to approve the plans or not.

In partnership with Galliard Homes, the club is seeking to build a 20,000-seater stadium with an initial capacity of 11,000.

The plans include provision for 600 residential units, along with retail and commercial space and a leisure club. Though the master plan aims to cater for growing support as Wimbledon progress up the Football League, it would also revitalise this part of Merton by bringing more jobs and adding community facilities for local residents.

Separate from the council’s statutory consultation, AFC Wimbledon and Galliard Homes conducted an extensive consultation process earlier this year. Local residents were invited to find out more about the plans during public exhibitions and to submit their own feedback. The result of this consultation process revealed that 3,041 people commented on the proposals with 84 per cent supporting them.

Chief Executive Erik Samuelson said: “The consultation results showed overwhelming support for our proposals and we’re very encouraged by this. The council planning committee will now look at the plans during the next 16 weeks and make a recommendation. If this is positive for us then we will move into the next phase of putting together a detailed design for the stadium.”
