Reunion with former Dons

Focus on Newport as part of FL campaign

We today feature a club with plenty of familiar faces in our countdown to the new season.

Newport County have added to their legion of former Dons with the permanent signing of Darren Jones (pictured) and they will be aiming to build on a season of consolidation after promotion back to the Football League.

Though a play-off charge failed to materialise after a promising start back in the Football League, it was a more than satisfactory return for Justin Edinburgh’s men. Having retained the core of his squad from last season and strengthened during the summer, Edinburgh is likely to make Newport tough to beat once again. Former Dons loanee Darren Jones will be a solid presence at the back and he knows all about Newport having spent time at the club when they were in non league. Fellow defender Kevin Feely, who had a loan spell with the Dons cut short due to injury, has joined on a permanent basis too after leaving Charlton Athletic. With a deal for former Cardiff City man Darcy Blake appearing to have stalled, Edinburgh is contemplating another move into the transfer market.
