Northampton in focus as part of FL campaign
The League 2 season is now just 16 days away and we’re counting down to the big kick-off by featuring all of Wimbledon’s opponents next season.
As part of the Football League’s “Wall of Colour” campaign, AFC Wimbledon will be encouraging fans to wear their scarves, shirts, rosettes, hats, and anything else in blue and yellow to help the Dons to victory against Shrewsbury. We are also planning to run an event on Saturday, 9 August, to fit in with the Football League’s aim to celebrate the new season at clubs all around the country.
The eighth club to feature in our countdown to the season is Northampton Town.

Former Oxford United manager Chris Wilder took over the Cobblers on 27 January with his new club rock-bottom of League 2. It was therefore a great achievement that he led Northampton to safety without having to pull off a great escape on the final day of last season. With nine players having departed Sixfields Stadium and new players coming through the door, Wilder is starting to put his own stamp on the squad.
Kaid Mohamed, who spent two spells at AFC Wimbledon, has joined on loan from Port Vale and Wilder has made significant signings in defence with Evan Horwood arriving from Tranmere and Danny Alfei on a loan deal from Swansea. John Joe O’Toole will be a name known to Dons fans as he previously plied his trade at Bristol Rovers. With Wilder's extensive knowledge of League 2 football and how to make a team competitive at this level, it would be no surprise to see a much-improved season at Northampton in 2014/15.
