Club event ready for October return

You can run, walk or jog to show your support for the club on Sunday, 18 October, as the AFC Wimbledon Minithon makes a welcome return.

The 5km fun run is back after a three-year gap and the event at Morden Park promises to be a great club effort.

The Dons Trust fundraising group are working with AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s community projects and The Academy as it strives to bring through more “home-grown and hungry” players.

It is an event that will once again be supported very generously by Terry’s Badges, who will provide “AFCW Minithon 3” badges for all participants.

Over 60 people of all ages participated in the last staging of the event in 2012 with AFC Wimbledon Sports Scientist Jason Moriarty crossing the finishing line first.

We are hoping that this event will be bigger and better than the previous two Minithons.

Haydon the Womble, Erik Samuelson, Neal Ardley and members of his management team are all expected to be participating, and you will be able to join in the fun run alongside them, or sponsor them online soon, via the AFC Wimbledon Foundation Charity donation page. This will be available in the near future at: https:mydonate.bt.com/charities/afcwimbledonfoundation .

The Academy is not a registered charity so we can’t use Gift Aid, but runners will be given sponsorship forms to collect donations, and in addition we hope to have online pledge pages.

And if you can’t do any of those things, then you can volunteer to help on the day, provide sponsorship, or just come along and enjoy the fun. The Minithon is for supporters of all ages, shapes and sizes: if you can run, walk or crawl three miles, then you can take part.

This year’s Minithon will start at 12 noon on 18 October with registration and activities staged from 10.30 am.

The entry fee is £10 for adults and £5 for 6 to 16 year olds. There will be no charge for children five years or younger or for AFC Wimbledon academy players.
