Peter steps up recovery

Midfielder relieved to be on the way back

will not be back in time to make a difference this season, but he is now feeling upbeat about his progress after one of the most frustrating spells of his career so far.Peter Sweeney 

The 28-year-old midfielder, who joined Wimbledon in January, was making only his seventh appearance in a Dons shirt when he fractured a metatarsal in his foot during the 1-1 draw against Northampton two months ago.

It has therefore been a long road back for the former Bury and Millwall midfielder, but Peter has taken a crucial step forward in the last week or so by completing straight-line running drills under the supervision of club physio Mike Rayner.

, Peter said: “I have completed good work-outs by doing running and little bits in the gym. I will be going for another X-ray soon and hopefully the bone will have completely healed so that I can move forward again. I have just started watching the lads in training and it is nice to feel a part of it all. “On a personal level it has been one of the most frustrating times of my career because I feel like I have got something to offer. The boys have been brilliant though and any other season we would have been safe by now and could have kicked on, but so many teams at the bottom have been in form.”

“Every player wants to be out there playing and it has been tough to be out,” Peter added. “But I am pleased with the progress that I am making. I get on really well with Mike and he has been brilliant with me. Mike takes his job seriously and is good at what he does so I am gutted that he will be leaving.”
